Witnessing Disaster

Other witnesses stated that disaster victims getting disabilities had been not dealt with at all, or had been placed in facilities lacking access to handicapped-accessible bathrooms that might be utilized by the disabled. (Component of the issue is that the Red Cross doesn’t really cope with those with medical conditions. Contrary to widespread view, even that of a Congressman who testified in these hearings, the Red Cross doesn’t offer emergency medical services. I know a physician who worked as a Red Cross volunteer in Mississippi and also the most he stated they had been allowed to do was triage and offer bandages, but otherwise sent those in require off to hospitals. Even the ARC “first aid” classes have been dumbed down and mostly train the lay public to call 9-1-1 to obtain help which will arrive. on typical, in below four to 6 minutes. Heh.)

The Red Cross responded with its own testimony. To a big extent, they note that this disaster was 20 times bigger in scope that anybody in government had ever expected for the U.S. That seemed to be hinting that the top-down centrally managed method was by no means intended to accomodate such an enormous disaster (and didn’t).
